Stone Laboratory Guest Lecture Series Continues With ODNR Director

Gibraltar Island, OH Ohio State University’s Stone Laboratory continues its summer lecture series Thursday, June 21 with Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Jim Zehringer, who will be discussing “ODNR Updates & Director’s Initiatives.”?

Each Thursday lecture begins at 7:45 p.m. and lasts until approximately 9 p.m. A short presentation on current research projects precedes each lecture at 7 p.m. Dr. Joseph Ortiz, Professor of Geology at Kent State University, will introduce his research on using satellite imagery to identify and track algae in Lake Erie and other Ohio lakes.

The public can view the lectures and research briefs via a live web seminar from any computer with internet access. More details and log-in information for this simple and fast option can be requested via email to _stonelab@osu.edu.

Guests who would like to attend the lectures in person are invited to take a Lake Erie Water Taxi, at their own expense, at 6:30 or 7:15 p.m. from the Boardwalk Restaurant dock to Gibraltar Island, where they will be given a short tour before the lecture.

“The Guest Lectures Series is a great way to get Great Lakes information out to the public”? says Dr. Jeff Reutter, Director of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory. “I encourage the public to come and take advantage of the opportunity to hear and interact with each of the speakers.”?

Tune in next week, on June 28, to hear from Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Director Scott Nally in his presentation, “OEPA 40th Anniversary and Update.”? Dr. Thomas Simon of Indiana University will present “Development of Nutrient Biotic Indices Using Fish Assemblages.”?
