Ohio Sea Grant Offers Great Lakes Climate Change Curriculum Webinar

12:00 pm, Tue October 9, 2012 –

Columbus, OH Ohio Sea Grant and the Ohio State Climate Change Outreach Team are offering an online introduction to their updated Great Lakes Climate Change Curriculum, geared toward science instructors and informal educators in the Great Lakes region who would like to integrate climate change education into their programming. In addition to updating the curriculum with the latest Great Lakes climate science, Ohio Sea Grant has added new activities to a number of lessons, and aligned each activity’s structure with current education principles and standards.

The free webinar is presented by educators who have used the resources in their own classrooms and outdoor programs. Topics will include regionally relevant climate science, climate and Great Lakes literacy principles, and resources like Ohio State University’s Global Change, Local Impact webinar series, in addition to the curriculum itself. Instructors will also share suggestions on how to adapt classroom activities to informal and outdoor education settings, based on input from previously held workshops and other events.

The webinar will be held on October 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Eastern Time. Online registration is now open at go.osu.edu/climatelessons. The first set of lessons is also available for download at that link. Certificates of attendance for professional development contact hours can be requested after the webinar; instructions will be provided during the session.

The OSU Climate Change Outreach Team is a partnership among multiple departments within The Ohio State University, including OSU Extension, Ohio Sea Grant, the Department of Agricultural, Environmental & Development Economics, and the School of Environment & Natural Resources, to help localize the climate change issue by bringing research and resources to Ohioans and Great Lakes residents. More information about the team’s work is available at changingclimate.osu.edu.
