The Ohio State University’s Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory, in partnership with University Student Affairs, will offer public tours of two Put-in-Bay area landmarks – Gibraltar Island and the South Bass Island Lighthouse.

Gibraltar Island Tours:
A two-hour "Science & History Tour" of Gibraltar Island will be held each Wednesday, June 20-August 15, including Wednesday, July 4th, from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The tour fee is $10, with proceeds supporting Stone Laboratory student scholarships.
Tour guides will lead a one-hour walking tour of the island including Perry’s Lookout, the glacial grooves, Stone Lab buildings, and the outside of Cooke Castle. The second hour will focus on current Lake Erie research being conducted at Stone Laboratory.
Island tours are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of 75 people. At the tour’s end, an optional box lunch is available for $8.00 if ordered upon arrival on the island. Lunch will be held outdoors, weather permitting.
Transportation to Gibraltar Island is provided by water taxi for at a cost of $4 round-trip. Participants should arrive by 10:45am at the Boardwalk Restaurant Harbor Taxi Landing on South Bass Island.
South Bass Island Lighthouse Tours:
Tours of the South Bass Island Lighthouse will be held June 23rd-August 19th, including July 4th, from 11:00am to 4:00pm, except Tuesdays. The grounds are open from 9:00am to 6:00pm, except Tuesdays. The tours include the first floor of the house, the lantern, and the grounds.
Ticket pricing is as follows: $4.00 for ages 12 and older; $2.00 for children 6-11 years old; and free for children under six years old. Tour proceeds are used for maintenance and restoration of the property.
Lighthouse tours will also be held on Wednesday, June 20th, to coincide with the kick-off of the Gibraltar Island tours. From May 26th – October 27th, the grounds are also open weekends and holidays from 9:00am to 6:00pm.
