OSU Stone Lab Hosts 10th Annual Open House

Gibraltar Island, OH The Friends of Stone Laboratory (FOSL) will host their 10th annual one-day Open House for the public on Saturday, September 8, 2007 from 11:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Stone Laboratory on Gibraltar Island. Free transportation is provided from The Ohio State University Research Building (beside the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife Aquatic Visitors Center) to Gibraltar Island.

"Our annual Open House combines science and history and allows our visitors to learn about Lake Erie issues and the research and education programs at Stone Laboratory. In addition, guests can tour the historic Cooke Castle and South Bass Island Lighthouse," states Dr. Jeffrey Reutter, Director of Stone Laboratory.

Open House activities include:
• Tour of Stone Lab, Gibraltar Island (free transportation)
• Tour of 6.5-acre island and view Cooke Castle
• Demonstrations and hands-on lab activities with local plankton, fish, and Lake Erie water snakes
• Tour ODNR Aquatic Visitors Center
• Tour South Bass Island Lighthouse (transportation not provided)

Registration will be at The Ohio State University Research Building on South Bass Island beside the Aquatic Visitors Center, South Bass Island Lighthouse, or Gibraltar Island.
